We present to you an overview of the artist of the painting:

Pavel Nikolaevich Filonov 1883 - 1941 Russian avant-garde painter,

Filonov was born in Moscow and moved to St. Petersburg, where he took art lessons. He joined the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts,

He participated in the Soyuz Molodyozhi art group and wrote the article “Law and Law”, in which he formulated the principles of analytical realism, or “anti-Cubism”.

Participated in the illustration of Khlebnikov's selected poems with an appendix

In 1919, he exhibited at the first free exhibition of artists of all directions in the Hermitage. He became a professor at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts and a member of the Institute of Artistic Culture (INKhUK). He organized a large art school of masters of analytical realism (more than seventy artists, including the American sculptor and portrait painter Helen Hooker). Their work influenced Suprematism and Expressionism.

Most of Filonov's works were preserved by his sister Yevdokia Nikolaevna Glebova. She stored the paintings in the archives of the Russian Museum and eventually donated them as a gift. Exhibitions of Filonov's work were banned. In 1967, an exhibition of Filonov's works was allowed to be held in Novosibirsk. In 1988, his work was allowed into the Russian Museum. Then the first international exhibition of Filonov's works was held in Paris. During the period of semi-legalization of Filonov's works, they were apparently easy to steal; However, there was a legend that Filonov's ghost protected his art and anyone who tried to steal his paintings or smuggle them abroad would soon die, become paralyzed, or suffer a similar misfortune.
