A painting called the Mona Lisa (The Mona Lisa), a painting painted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1503.

We present to you an overview of the artist of the painting:

Leonardo di Ser Piero da Vinci 1452 - 1519 Italian polymath of the High Renaissance

He was active as a painter, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect. While his fame was initially based on his achievements as a draftsman, he was also known for his notebooks, in which he made drawings and notes on a variety of subjects, including anatomy, astronomy, botany, cartography, drawing, and paleontology.

Leonardo is widely regarded as a genius who embodied the ideal of Renaissance humanism, and his collective works constitute a contribution to subsequent generations of artists rivaled only by those of his younger contemporary, Michelangelo.

He was educated in Florence by the Italian painter and sculptor Andrea del Verrocchio. He began his career in the city, but spent a long time serving Ludovico Sforza in Milan. He worked in Florence and Milan again, as well as briefly in Rome, all while attracting a large number of imitators and students. At the invitation of Francis I, he spent his last three years in France, and there was never a time when his achievements, diverse interests, personal life and experimental thinking failed to arouse interest and admiration.

Leonardo is known as one of the greatest painters in the history of art and is often credited as the founder of the High Renaissance. Although there are many lost works and fewer than 25 major attributed works—including several unfinished works—he created some of the most influential paintings in Western art. The Mona Lisa is considered his best-known work, and is often considered the most famous painting in the world. The Last Supper is the most reproduced religious painting of all time, and the Vitruvian Man is also considered a cultural icon. In 2017, Salvator Mundi, attributed in whole or in part to Leonardo, was sold at auction for US$450.3 million, setting a new record for the most expensive painting ever sold at auction.

Revered for his technological innovation, he developed the concept of flying machines, a type of armored combat vehicle, a concentrated solar energy, and a ratio machine. Relatively few of his designs were created or were possible during his lifetime, as modern scientific approaches to metallurgy and engineering were only in their infancy during the Renaissance.

However, some of his smaller inventions entered the unheralded world of manufacturing, such as the automatic bobbin winder and a machine for testing the tensile strength of wire.

He made fundamental discoveries in anatomy, civil engineering, hydrodynamics, geology, optics, and tribology, but he did not publish his results and they had little direct impact on later science.
